Run Headwind GSM Modem Driver as Windows service

In the service mode, Headwind GSM Modem Driver can accept commands through COM interface from all authorized users on the computer. Also, the SMS handlers and sources may be used.

Warning! The setup of Headwind GSM Modem Driver in service mode requires running it with administrator rights. The registration code should also be entered when running with administrator rights. In Windows 7, you need to click the icon of Headwind GSM Modem Driver in Start menu and select "Run with administrator rights".

  • To install the service, run the command:

    cd "C:\Program Files\Headwind SMS\Headwind GSM Modem Driver"
    hgsmdrv.exe /instservice

  • If you will use COM interface, register the COM server in service mode by applying the registry settings from the file reg\hgsmdrv_dcom_service.reg
  • Setup the launch and activation permissions to the appropriate users via the utility dcomcnfg.exe:
    • Launch dcomcnfg.exe
    • Go to "Component services", "Computers", "My computer", "DCOM settings"
    • Click "HeadwindGSM" by right mouse button, select "Properties" and open the "Security" tab
    • Select "Change" for "Launch and activation permissions", add an appropriate user, for example, "Administrator" (but not the "Administrators" group) and set the permissions to "Local launch" and "Local activation"
    • Select "Change" for "Access permissions", add an appropriate user and set him the "Local access" permissions
    • Click "OK"
  • To configure the server in Windows service mode:
    • Stop the hgsmdrv service if it is running
    • Run hgsmdrv.exe /cfgservice
    • Setup Headwind GSM Modem Driver and close it by clicking the icon in tray and selecting "Exit"
    • Run hgsmdrv service
  • The log file of Headwind GSM Modem Driver in service mode is located in the directory:

    C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Roaming\Headwind SMS

Restore the local COM server mode

  • Stop hgsmdrv service
  • Remove the service by the command sc delete hgsmdrv
  • Remove from the registry the local service mode by applying the registry settings from the file reg\hgsmdrv_dcom_server.reg
  • Register COM server in local server mode by running hgsmdrv.exe /init
